The KINGS script is written by Djamel Bara, who we worked with in 2000/2001 when we produced OFF SIDE. OFF SIDE, about a young terrorist and his football-adoring brother, was part of Djamels trilogy Vrijheid, Gelijkheid en Broederschap (Freedom, Equality and Brothership), a portrait of the degeneration of an Algerian family in Europe. KINGS is the third part of this trilogy. Djamel started writing the trilogy in 1994; certain was that this third part would be about a boy who kills his sister in order to warrant his own pride. Djamel was inspired by a tragical French suburb incident: a young Algerian boy killed his best friend because of his sisters honour. At the time that caused a lot of controversy in France. A second inspiration is the documentary When We Were Kings, based on boxing legend Muhammed Alis comeback.
Djamel: to me, this plays particularly about status, a fight on pride of life & death. About a girl fighting for status inside a streetculture which doesnt recognize her status. And also about a boy who, to protect his own status, pushes boundaries and thinks he can justify that by bringing up his "roots".

The musical score/soundtrack is produced and mixed by The Flexican, DJ and producer, and will feature artists like Flinke Namen, Typhoon, RFx, Pete Philly, Big Boy Caprice, Blaxtar and Juiceisdunaam. Simultaneous with the theatre tour theres also the KINGS Clubtour; a hiphop night with The Flexican spinning his favorite records, accompanied by a VJ and MCs Fit and Sef, two of his Flinke Namen partners.
