Julie Andrews, in her first time on the UK stage for 30 years, does the Rodgers and Hart standard "My Funny Valentine" all by herself. We get a glimpse of Julie at her peak with a clip of 'Do-Re-Mi', before the entire cast sing the curtain down on the First Act.

  • i would of given my right arm to see her perform! even if she was just talking! so what if she cant sing like she used to..she's amazing and extremly brave for singing infront of everyone knowing her voice isnt the same as it was..to the people who walked out....bunch of sad twats

  • She definitely does not sound the same anymore. Brings tears to one's eyes. However, I don't care what she sounds like, I'd pay anything to hear her sing---good or bad!

  • It is essential that people remember that a great singer is not about the technique. It is not the note hit that made Maria Callas a world wonder, nor the belt that made Judy Garland an American Icon. It is the ability to, in phrase and emotion, connect with a listener. Andrews does that here, the fact that she can do it so effortlessly is why she is in the pantheon of vocal gods. Her technical skill never matched that ability. Considering how amazing her technical skill was, that says volumes.

  • She was 74, and yet she tried. She said before the concert that she would not sing as she had in the past, so those who expected her voice to be as great as ever were not listening. I would have loved to be there just to see her.

  • @SwankyCub I agree with you. I also think her age should be taken into account - she's almost 70 at this point, which is an age where most sopranos, throat surgery or not, don't feel too comfortable singing in the high register anymore.

  • She's not only in her 70's, lost most of her vocal range, and can still do this much? I would have given anything to see this live! geez! I mean, who can still do even this much in their 70's, not many people!

  • @SwankyCub You said it beautifully. She is courageous and generous. The upper register is gone, but Julie and her wonderful, generous personality is still there.

  • The clip from The Sound of Music is sooo cute :D

  • People can rag on this Legend's current voice all they want. Doesn't change the fact that her tone is still there...one of those singers who has been gifted with a tone that can just always bring a smile to people's faces

  • @cuartorriqueno Yes, someone gets how great this is! Julie is a trooper and I have decided to carry on her work ethic and go into singing and acting myself. Indeed, I've already started- and been told I have great potential. I tell everyone that my biggest inspiration is Julie Andrews. :-)

  • I admire this woman. She probably cried herself to sleep when she thought she wouldn't be able to sing again. Since then, she's published books, set up tons of charity events, and she's still singing. A huge standing ovation from computer chairs everywhere is most certainly encouraged. Bravo, Julie!
