There was some kind of garbled syllable prior to "the Australians" that sounded like the word "if" (perhaps a "false start" to the statement); and the "or" was pronounced very lightly and perhaps with the colloquial American "er" pronunciation. So I can see how one might think the statement was as you have it above. But that wasn't what the man said.
Talk about confusion! "If they dont kill the mining, they will kill australia....." That statement makes NO sense. How could heavy govt taxation on mining be good for a commodity economy!
