It's based on historical fact. The division was an elite unit and beat the crap out of Germans when they fought them, but they suffered severe losses some 80% of Easy Company didn't make it to the end of the war without a severe injury, like losing a leg, or being killed altogether.
The div., was comparable to the GrossDeutschland division, 1st and 3rd SS in their fighting quality.
The actions they participated in successfully and casualty counts, incl. their own, are historical fact.

Many of these films were/are shite. Some good ones mixed in. Best thing ever made on WW2 by far is Band of Brothers series. Nothing even close.

solltest mal "Brotherhood" (so deutscher titel, originaltitel "taegukgi") anschauen, spielt zwar im Koreakrieg, ist aber tausendmal besser als diverse andere US-Kriegsfilme; mein Geheimtipp!
