Raw video; through the windshield 23 December 2008. Eastbound I-40 in northwestern Arizona. Segment 3 of my trip from Burbank, Ca. to Chicago Il. As I left , California was falling into the Pacific Ocean. The slide continues as the Governator Schwarzeneger offers his plan to save the economy with sales, car and fuel tax increases and windmills, and golf course fee increases. But now theres a break; Reflublicans have offered the Democraps a poison pill; a trade-off of relaxing some environmental controls in exchange for tax increases. Its a poison pill because the Democraps are beholden to the environmental causes and cross them only at great peril. They could make an answering offer of something more palatable to them and then engage in some serious horse trading. Meanwhile; cities in California are dependant upon sales taxes for operating revenue. Unfortunately, in the current economic situation, people are not spending. Some cities have resorted to loaning money to car dealers (big sources of local sales tax revenue) to keep them operating and paying tax. Hilarious! Towns loaning money to car dealers who buy their cars from manufacturers who are borrowing money from the federal government to stay afloat so the dealers can sell cars to people who must borrow money to buy those cars so they can pay taxes..Im getting dizzy; not a good condition for somebody who has one foot in a lifeboat as California falls into the sea. That's still Coltrane playing in the background.
