"Let's stop welcoming undocumented immigrants"

Moderator: John Hockenberry
Speaking for the motion: Vernon M. Briggs, Jr., Mark Krikorian and Heather Mac Donald
Speaking against the motion: Daniel T. Griswold, Enrique Morones and Karen K. Narasaki

IQ2US marks the launch of Oxford-style debating -- one motion, one moderator, three advocates for the motion, three against -- in New York City. Each evening begins at 6:00P with a complimentary cocktail period. As you enter the theater before the debate starts at 6:45P, you cast your vote for or against the evening's motion. Those results are displayed midway through the debate as each side makes its statements. After all six panelists speak, the audience has a chance to ask the speakers questions and vote again. The debate finishes with brief summations from the panelists, the votes are tallied and a winning side is declared.

  • C SPAN “Black Republican Forum” Session 2 (begin at 11:30) Allen West said one of the 1986 caveats was to secure our borders and enforcement our laws, but haven’t happened. (We’re still talking about new amnesty like DREAM Act.) We can’t allow local cities to make sanctuary cities policies, because they will bring our inner city turf wars to epic proportions by bringing in the drug cartel and Columbian gangs. (Mexican Gangs don’t recognize our borders established by the Treaty of Guadalupe)

  • In November 2010, the unemployment rate was 9.8% with 15.1 million unemployed. (15.1 million/9.8%) = 154 million are able to work in the workforce. 11,941,812 (or 11.9 million) skilled jobs provided to illegal immigrants. GOOGLE “illegal immigration counters”, the 15.1 million unemployed could take the 11.9 million available jobs. The unemployment rate could be reduced to 2.1% {{15.1-11.9)/154}

  • Okay...ALL American acts of violence committed in the US by US citizens is dwarfed by the Mexican murdering fellow Mexican in the first 3 months of 2008!!! The Freak is a hypocritical lying buffoon!!! He claims that Americans commit more crimes against Americans than Mexicans do. Really? on a % basis? He says there are "only" 12 million illegal Mexicans in the US, tho' the Mexican gov said in Jan 2007 there were 14 million. Since 9/11, 40,000 Americans have been killed by illegal MEXICANS.

  • but you are criticizing other country's foreign policy, not ours! like you said, "the US is full of Canadians & Europeans that work here, but NO US Citizen can work in those countries."

  • Because 9/11 made people in the US/ MEDIA FEAR Arabs/Mexicans/ foreigners more. Good Lord, man. Perhaps if we keep up this daily dialog, you'll understand that next point sometime in 2008! LOL!

  • Ohhhh. I see your point. But I still don't see what that has to do with 9/11

  • Yes, 9/11 does have much to do with it. I'm an avid news reader and news viewer. That's one of the key things that was brought up in the news about how people couldn't tell Arabs from Mexicans. My point regarding ANY US CITIZEN holds true: the US is full of Canadians & Europeans that work here, but NO US Citizen can work in those countries.

  • the thing is, that immigration restrictions happened LONG before 9-11. In fact, if anything, immigration laws have gotten more open than before. For example, a guest worker program for unskilled workers has been getting bigger and allowing for more guest workers. So, it really has nothing to do with 9-11.

  • Let me digress; 9-11 made many people see undocumented/ illegal immigrants as people with darker skin i.e. Mexicans. I have undocumented/ illegal friends from Europe & Australia who are White. It's about 'perception' rather than anything. Also, it's a shame that Canadians and British can work in the US EASILY, but even a White US citizen cannot work in the UK or Canada. FACTS not racism. Don't get it twisted, man.

  • LOL!!! I NEVER said that!!! You're reading into things, MAN!
