Researcher Jen Hunter studies how coloration protects animals from predation. She puts out taxidermy mounts of the same animals with different coloration to see how predators react.

This video shows visitors to the camera stations & their reactions to the strange new creatures.

  • Where exactly did you film? I didn't think Bobcats and Cougars were in the same region.

  • This was shot in the Northern Sierras of California, but I know that bobcats & cougars can coexist in the Rocky Mountains, as well, maybe elsewhere, too.

I don't think they are direct competitors--cougars focus on larger prey, like deer, bighorn, etc.

  • Thanks! Camera that got the animal pics was an IR, motion sensing one. I can't remember what brand--there are a lot of them. animals aren't supposed to be able to see the IR, but clearly they are sensing something...

  • I had a fox coming in my yard. & Yes they can see the IR. It was jumpy & kept looking at the camera which was attached to the fence. When I lookes at the camera I could see the IR lights even thoufg they are not bright at all.

  • Fascinating! Great idea! Love the lion roar...haha. What camera did you use? The quality is great.
