Outside the Indonesian Democratic Party's (PDI) headquarters, Megawati Sukarnoputri's supporters march with banners held high. They refuse to end their occupation of the building until Megawati is reinstated by Jakarta's parliament. In an alliance with the radical People's Democratic Party (PRD), the PDI issues an unprecedented challenge to President Surharto. Megawati calls the rebellion, "a spontaneous act". PRD supporters from teeming kampongs and cramped factories meet in Jakarta's back streets to discuss party strategy. Surharto's yellow 'Golkar' party organise martial youth rallies to impress new recruits. Businessman Agung Laksana profits from Golkar's majority, living in an opulent villa and riding through the city centre in his stretch BMW. He fears political upheaval will upset the economy. Forced from his rice paddies to make way for a plush new golf course, farmer Amir has a different view. Interviews with Megawati and Political Commentator, Arif Burriman, who questions whether she will shake off a privileged past to help the poor.
