  • Chris Ledoux sang this song years later I liked that version as well. Did Charlie write this?

  • @jeremyquas ....Yes he did. Words and Music. I did not know Chris recorded it. I will check it out.

  • I like Charlie Daniels, he makes great music, but I never got that he did a song about Jesse James as a hero, when he's supposed to have killed a lot of people in cold blood, but his song about Billy the Kid is just a murderer who really deserves to die when he only killed 2 people in his whole life. Doesn't make sense to me, even if it is just music.

  • @TheBookWorm1718 ...The James gang benefited from the fact that the south had lost the civil war. They were viewed as heroes who were carrying on the fight by their fellow southerners. Billy didn't have any thing like that. He was caught up in a range war.

  • Does charlie d do all the pickin in this song?....great licks! Thanks!

  • @superspidercat Mostly. He has a second guitarist in the band, this allows them to play guitar harmonies with each other. But Charlie is the main soloist.

  • I began my record collection in '74. It really irks me that the CDB was placed "between" rock and country. Great songs as this, "Georgia", "Willie Jones", "High Lonesome", "Funky Junky", and so many more are never heard. Thank you for posting this great song.

  • i love this song and i love the post cards or pictures you used in this video

  • ruthlessly and unjustly stealing and devouring the lands of poor farmers.

  • He dont make Billy out to be a murderous villain, he sings the story the only way it can be portrayed. And although there is no verifiable proof that the kid killed the 21 people the legends claim there is sufficient evidence that his kill count was higher than 2. Additionally, James is still regarded as a hero to many sons of the South. The offenses he committed against the railroad are often not looked at as crimes, rather they are seen as efforts against an evil institution that was

  • @NCCountryBoy20 That's actually a myth.

  • @TheBookWorm1718 he actually killed 21 and pat garrett would have been number 22 but garrett killed him first

  • @2eyejoe2 In Billy the Kid's time it was perfectly legal to shoot horse thieves on sight without even a trial; so how is him shooting two men in self defense so much more cold blooded murder than legally executing somebody who stole a horse?

  • @TheBookWorm1718 I,m almost 50 and i have never killed anyone. Billy the kid you say killed only two, that makes him a cold blooded killer.

  • @tecate1joe If I remember correctly, he killed 4 people, the first two were in self defense, but he was in jail for them anyway, and broke out during which time he killed I think it was 2 guards. And he was 16 the first time. Agree though, great song.

  • @TheBookWorm1718 If I remember correctly, William H. Bonnie killed 12 people, the first one being someone who insulted his mother. He was aged 13 at that time, if I'm correct. Anyhow, great song.
