The Apollo was opened around 1968, and closed for good in about 1999/2000 Mostly due to the failing condition of the building. It was a favorite spot, and hopefully there will be a new one built here. Talks are under way now to develop it into a new mall.

  • why didnt they fix the roof?

  • @KripDrip apparently it was too far gone for economical repair- I hear it will be torn down and a new mall built here, maybe a Target store as an anchor store.

  • So why would you get arrested for going there?

  • @gta4life55 Because there has been a raft of copper pipe theft in old buildings around here and the cops have warning signs up- There is a video cam right where I am parked, and I don't want to take a chance.

  • @fortyfiveplayer Whos idea is it to steal copper pipes thats just stupid

  • @gta4life55 I know- but this is a poor area, and copper prices are high- it's just what happens.

  • its a shame figers now they put an exit on 106

  • OhNo what a shame

  • What a waste!! Hope they open a new one for you.

  • What you described is the ideal mall to me. The malls here in WV have mostly clothing stores.

  • In East Texas there's been a lot of copper theft. Thieves are climbing onto roofs or just walk into someones backyard and strip off the copper tubing from air conditioning systems while the owner is at work. And some have been digging up copper lines around AM Transmitter sites.

Its kind of sad that the "Big Box" stores have almost replaced shopping malls. Poorly designed or built buildings like this one, once-good areas going "ghetto" and higher prices than discounters did a lot of them in.

  • hi nice channel. tow mater sent me.

  • There were more than a couple of strip malls in this area that shared the same fate and for the same reasons. I use to frequent a couple that in the end days served as flea markets before the fire marshall closed them down. SUCKS!! I use to get lots of good buys at those flea markets!!
