Hey Chad. I just got one of these today and the blade seems to come off very easily just by wiggling it off. It may still be easier to get the clamp off first. But even without removing the clamp, it came off very easily for me.
yup it needs oil on the bearing shaft,. but it's a nice fan, the S on that fan is the same as the superior coach emblem, what year is that fan made in?
I have several of these, you just sit in a chair, and put your feet lightly on the sides of the frame without actually putting any weight on them, and tug up with your hands around the center of the hub. If you try to get the spring clip off, you'll break the blade while it's on the fan.
I think that one might be from 1980 or so. Yours is probably from the early 70's. Because I think it was then that the blades were white like on yours and you had the olive green cabinets (like yours) or the turquoise blue cabinets to chose from. They probably went to the sky blue and pale blue colors in the mid 70's.
That's almost like the one I used to have (it was my parents' but it was mine sometimes too.) It had the same blades and nearly blade hub but the motor wasn't plastic housed. It was the original metal housed motor.
I can't tell for sure, but it kind of looks like the same fan I used to have about 8 years ago. The original motor died, and I replaced it with one from an old Galaxy box fan that I found in the trash. It worked great for a few years, but I think it needed lubrication as it would be real slow to start up and then eventually it just wouldn't start up at all. But I didn't know to try it at the time...

On removing that blade, you might ask Stereoflip about that. He's got a Superior that he took apart and oiled recently.
Good luck with it.
