Vocalo's DJ Collective's "Quest for the Best" 2012 DJ Competition

Wednesday February 8th 2012 the Collective are holding a competition to see who has what it takes to be the next member of their crew at

Simone's 960 W. 18...th St. (Chicago) Pilsen (The Lab / Backroom) 8pm doors, 9pm show.. 21+ (After Party to follow) No cover.. Free all night!

DJs are to submit a 15 min. mix to (jessed@vocalo.org) by NEW DEADLINE:

Monday, Jan. 30th 2012 (5pm). Selected DJs will be contacted Weds Feb. 1st & given further details if they make the cut. The top 12 DJs will be chosen to compete for this slot.

(Do not submit a mix that you can't reproduce live).

DJs will be judged on:

Track selection
Creativity
Versatility
Technical skill

(Not scratching or rock doubles will NOT count against you but if you attempt to and are not good.. this WILL work against your score.. ("If you can't scratch, don't")

The top 6 will move on to the finals


Vocalo's DJ Collective's "Quest for the Best" 2012 DJ Competition - Final

Weds. Feb. 22nd 2012 at the Shrine (Coup d'état) 2109 South Wabash Ave. 8pm doors, 9pm show.. 21+ (After Party to follow) No cover.. Free all night!

Both events will be hosted by Luis Perez (Vocalo's OverDrive) & the Dirty M.F.

The winner will be a featured member of Vocalo's DJ Collective heard weekly on Vocalo's "Friday Night DJ series" 89.5FM or streaming at www.vocalo.org/player


::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: RULES :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::


* 15 minutes each round (submission, prelim, and finals)

* Keep it interesting (multiple styles of music, different tempos)

* Tell us a story through your mix (act like this mix is what you want to present to the world as YOU, yourself as a DJ)

* Don't feel like you're in a club (the LAST thing any of us want is to hear a ton of top 40/club mixes).

When it comes music there shouldn't be any rules... but playing a bunch of top 40 tunes and not doing something different with them will work against your score.

* Must use either Turntables or CDJs (No Laptops by themselves, Ableton Live or iPods). Must be able to spin the old fashion way.. no auto sync button.

* Keep it clean (obviously)
