Key West prides itself on being the only frost-free city in the continental United States, but every once in awhile it does get cold there. On January 10, 2010, the temperature on the island never reached over 50 degrees. To most, this may not sound so bad, but there was a steady 25-knot wind making it feel much colder. And to compound things, there are few places in Key West with heat: Fireplaces and central heat are pretty much non-existent there. Residents and tourists alike simply had to bundle up, hunker down, and make the best of it.

  • @ Phelmi1: Greetings to you from Key West. Yes, we complain when it is 50 degrees, but it could be worse. Remember, though, we have no heat in our homes down here: When it is cold outside, it is cold inside. Stay warm!

  • This morning it was 49F.

  • Greetings from Finland, 5F right now...

  • What tourist?

  • I live in the Keys, Little Torch, and this was a great clip! I'm sharing it. I remember that night...we went to the Salvation Army to find sweaters, extra blankets, and what ever we could to keep warm. The little space heater we have didn't begin to cut the coldness out of the air.

  • it got down to 40 + might hv been 39 in some isolated places there

  • Never left the house today, but betting South Beach looked pretty much the same. The tourists are all like, WTF?!? :-D
