  • These comments are pathetic. OK listen up people. Those who have spent hours pondering over whether this is acceptable (which I have done too I admit) I believe it is time for us all to GET A LIFE!!!

Zara Phillips: World & European Champion, shortlisted for the Olympics, has a string of sponsers and horses and is recognised as one of Britains top eventers. If anyone here has a record to top that then they are indeed qualified to make a comment regardings Zaras riding,If not then dont comment

  • How does her level on other horses make it acceptable hit a horse as punishment. (I understand she odveosly is experienced). But regardless of that in MY OPINION she should not have hit the horse as a punishment. NOT that I ride at that level - but the angle she presented the horse to the fence at didn't look too good the first time. Hitting the horse (after a refusal - punishment) is likely to upset and possibley frighten the horse - so he/she may assosiate a bad memory with the fence.

  • Why not calmly reassure the horse after the refusal and represent the horse and (depending on the horse and how he/she is) possibley use the whip to re-inforce the leg on the way INTO the jump?

  • She should have smacked the horse going into the jump, not afterwards. Taking your frustration out on the horse isn't acceptable, backing up your leg aids with your whip as you approach the jump is.

  • Whips isn't used to hit the horse. :/ It's only an help for your legs/stirrups. :)

  • @jbdevon1 yeah cos patting and praising a horse are a refusal is obviosly going to make him want to jump it? you are more likely to teach that horse that itr is okay to refuse from trying to reasure tha horse. if the horse is generally scared, then so be it, you should retire if thats the case. but to be honest, in this case, zara should have used her stick behind her leg once or twice, not on his neck. but i agree. she did hit the horse wayyy to much

  • bitch

  • @susieos ok look sos maybe i was bit harsh saying countless lets just leave it dont want an argument :) and yes she is a good rider and i wasnt trin 2 insult her :)

  • @susieos sos i dont get involved in kidyish argyments with someone who dosent get there facts wright u ovbisly thought we were doing an english test

  • @roxy00799 No, it just bothers me that you can't count or use punctuation. She's a world class rider who is perfectly entitled to discipline her animal when it misbehaved. She chastised him on the shoulder when he disobeyed and followed it up with leg and seat aids. Have you ever watched at a warm up area at a 3 star? Obviously not, or else you wouldn't be whining about a few taps on the shoulder. And no, like the horse, I'm not stressed.

  • @susieos Im sorry is this zara im talking 2 its obviously affected u personly i can see it stressed u out a lot

  • @roxy00799 Countless???? Can you really not count that high?

  • I HATE it when ridersdo that i understand a tap or 2 but not countless amount of whacks.

  • Apart from on Toytown she has had not a four or three star event win. He was a very forward going and honest horse across country. High Kingdom who was tenth at Burghley was her first 4 star since 2007. Unlike Fox-Pitt, Mary King and Funnell she seems challenged by other horses and although she has a stable full I cannot see her winning an Olympic medal. She may not even get on the team;she needs to do well at Badminton because the selectors are not sentimental. It's the horse they pick.
