Thank you. I have been meaning to do this for last month due to flashing too many roms and force close issues. Worked seamlessly. The development phone image is not available from htc website so had to google it and get it.

Interesting stuff. Follow the instruction to the letter. When I toggle USB after following this I end with two drive mounts under Ubuntu and one under Windows 7.

The small partition is only visible under Ubuntu and is also read-only. Files is put on the large partition disappear after safe eject, USB toggle off, USB toggle on. Files disappear on WIndows 7 and Ubuntu.

So anyway I end up with something that is totally useless.

Try to format using Windows 7 instead. Maybe the safe bet

were did you get the recovery img that alows you to part. the sd? i couldnt find it on the site you gave i have the Cyanogen 1.4 JF version on it now and it doesnt have that option
