why is it cruel? How is it any crueler than a dog chasing a normal ball? There's still not real point to chasing a ball and bringing it back to someone, or a stick for that matter.
Dogs like to fetch and chase things because of their hunting instinct, chasing a fake ball (or laser pointer) fulfills their desire to chase and play without causing damage as well as giving them good exercise. It is cruel in no ways.
