When Terry Knight stepped away from the lead singer scene it was the voice of Mark Farner that became the leader of The Pack. This gem from 1968 came with no sound. The live performance is "Stand Next To Your Fire" so, the studio version recording has to suffice. Dig the multi-colored tunics? Could it be this is where the guys got the idea to dress in different colors when they became Grand Funk Railroad?
I know better versions are out there...but for now...Mark Farner (lead vocals), Craig Frost (keys), Don Brewer (drums), Herm Jackson (bass) and Kenny Rich (guitar) on Cleveland's Up Beat Show!

Nugget of Knowledge from You Tube's JohninFunk : "Here's a little history behind them: David Spero (son of the Upbeat show producer Herman Spero) took those shots with his 8mm camera. He used to film all the acts while taping for WEWS's Upbeat at Cleveland's studio.

The taping(s) of The Pack took place early March and broadcast March 9 and April 27 1968 by WEWS TV (episodes #187 and #194) New York had to broadcast the episodes 1 -- 2 weeks later, as the films were leap-frog from town to town."

  • You can start to hear the change from the Pack to GFR at least in Mark doing the singing. Its so 60s sounding I love it. I have this song somewhere, Have not listened to it in a while. The Video is cool.
