amazing man that Keith McHenry guy!

@jumpnjza2 Here FNB had the same problem. it's not illegal to give it away for free, but to homeless because it makes them "dependent" is what we were told.
-
They arested us costantly for about eight years. Finnaly they gave up. Now lots of people serve outdoors without fear of arest in San Francisco. We won them that right.
-
If that isn't the reason why they're getting arrested, well I'm incredibly interested to know why.
Note: What I've said is my understanding of it. If I'm incorrect, feel free to correct me.

jumpnjza2,
I think it may have something to do with regulating the quality of the food (when it is given away in such a "massive" scale). When giving away so much of it, they become a quasi-restaurant and therefore need a permit to do so (Yes, very silly).
I don't know if this is the case, but I bet such a permit would require property from where to distribute the food. In which case the deck is stacked against them, since they don't make profit for the food.

What? It's illegal to give away food for free?

Awesome. Anarchism in action. =)

Isn't a Canada some sort of fungal infection?
Just kidding. I really like Canada.
Arrested for serving free meals? WTF!
The president probably would have given him a medal if he had heartlessly bombed some homeless people or something. We have our priorities in this country SO WAY OFF that it sickens me.
