Yeah, it's really fortunate there wasn't a fire. A crash on landing is better than a crash on takeoff; at least, on landing, there's probably "only" about 90 minutes worth of fuel remaining for most flights.
The fact they broke up directly over sand may have meant any spilt fuel simply got sucked into the ground like a sponge. Lucky circumstances.
Planes ARE safer, tho, better reinforcement for the passenger seats, etc. THAT probably saved lives, here.

Small point but the F seat is on the other side of the aircraft. Bigger point... the news girl needs a nose job.

That passenger who was talking is my second cousin(no kidding).
I haven't been to the scene yet as cops and soldiers are guarding the plane.The lady was wrong about the wreckage being removed on Sunday..local news (in Jamaica) says only the tail will be removed Sunday so that large airliners will be able to land.
A large airliner like that could not be dismantled and removed in one day.

Obviously this is a safe plane, including the one that landed in the Hudson. Years ago, a crash like this, would of resulted in a big explosion
