A Fun Video of the kids' reaction when they see a snake up-close and get to touch it.
See how long the rat snake can hang on to the wall before falling to the ground. They have a pretty good grip even when being touched. I thought it would have fallen sooner.
Went outside to find this yellow rat snake about 3 feet long climbing up the wall. So I ran inside, got the kids and cam to imortalize their reaction on tape. It isn't their first time seeing a snake, but it is the first time they saw one climbing the outside wall of our house and got to touch it. haha.
See 1:46 when my son goes to touch it and his sister's response. lol
Then when I touched it, we still laugh at the reactions. @ 2:23 and 3:22
My favorite cat, "Mr. Beauty" @ 3:29 has part Manx (no tail), part Angora with the long fur and maybe some wild cat in it because its hind is taller than normal similar to a Bobcat. there is a blood line in this ones family with local wild cat from years ago. Mr Beauty was only about 5-6 feet away, but cat napping behind the bird bath and Pindo palm so he must not have seen the snake. he playful and would've menaced it.
Its the second snake in two weeks that we found in the same place. The first was a really small ribbon or garter snake that climbed inside the shutters. Apparently to eat, since it stayed there for a few days. I didn't get it on cam, should have. So I decided to get this one.
We played with it and let it go in a wooded area away from the cats. I'm sure its well on its way to 6ft or so. This year we have seen a lot of snakes, mainly in the last month or so as this sporadic weather of dry, warm and cool days make ideal snake weather. I have been trying to get an indigo snake that is living in one area (or at least has been seen more than 10 times in same area) but when i bring the camera, it isn't there.
Background music / my original song © 1996 library of congress - "Stale Bread". Until I produce a hopefully interesting video for it, If you want to hear the "Stale Bread" blues song that actually got up to Chart Position #49 out of about 42,000+ Songs in Blues Category on go here - . I thought that was pretty good for a nobody musician. ain't being proud, just sayin'.
How is the snake able to climb a wall?
Mxsmanic 3 months ago
@Mxsmanic - amazing isnt it? this is one of a few snakes found climbing the rough edges of our outer wall. The last one was a couple weeks ago... a hatchling (baby) Grey Rat snake. Currently we're feeding it until next spring. Ive never seen one full grown but have seen countless baby grey rat snakes. I took a video but wasnt as interesting as this one. Still not sure what they're looking for on the wall. Thanks for asking.
