  • Hey that Rover 800 series used Honda Accord/legend Engines transmissions and Electricals, great cars, what killed em was poor Construction by Rover and ultimately like all Rovers of the late 80's and 90's- rust and internal water leaks. Still see a few of em about today so they cant all have been that bad. 827 was the best though.

  • @humberdestroyer I have driven cars for over 40 years and taken them apart and put them back together again - when one could. I love old cars, but compared technologically with modern cars (my original point) they are light years behind. Modern cars may not have metal dashboards, cross-ply tyres and 6 volt electrics, but they stop and start when they should and go very well in between.

  • @humberdestroyer One reason "this country is in the state it's in" is because the Germans and the Japanese didn't stand still, like the once beating heart of the British motor industry at Longbridge. BMW 330d estate (10 plate) since you ask - I'm too old for the cool shades.

  • @rooftopjump. Think 40 is about in the middle, proof is in the pudding as they say i have had my own bodyshop for 20 years so know what i am talking about! This is the reason this country is in the state its in, flocks of sheep buying cars for a badge. What car do you drive? I would say a audi or vw golf and wear cool shades even when its raining.

If you're trying to defend the Austin Allegro, Ambassador, Hillman Hunter and Avenger and Morris Marina you must be too young to have encountered any of them. Mind you, you could be quite old as none of them lasted more than about 5 years before they fell to bits.

  • nice like the E type and Austin Healy

  • Modern metal? what you talking about cars now are not metal, tinfoil and plastic is the materials now used i know i have to repair the crappy things.

  • In terms of the evolution of the motor car (100 years) these are from the Middle Ages. In other words, while they may be sentimentally pleasant to remember, they are absolute crap to drive when compared with modern metal.
