@greenoak1 I compare it to playing drums with mallets. It also subdues a lot of the "sweeps" when your hands slide across the steel. I rather like the mellow sound. Its really nice for late night.
It definitely softens the sound - almost muddy. I found myself hitting harder when wearing the thicker gloves. I gotta let that temptation to hit harder go... and just listen "louder".
I tried thin liner gloves (like liners for ski gloves) but unfortunately they don't keep my hands warm. A friend just knitted a part of fingerless mittens for me. They work really well. Now only my fingertips freeze.
