I forgot to mention that I no longer have any of the horrible UC symptoms (cramps, pinching, blood loss, pain, urgency to go to the toilet, etc).

And if you think that going to the toilet 4-6 times a day is a big deal, it really isn't when you've lived with Crohn's and Ulcertaive Colitis.

Having a J-Pouch and going to the toilet 4-6 times a day becomes part of your every day routine and you don't even think about it anymore. It becomes as normal as going to pee and the reason why it becomes normal is because you no longer have to deal with the pain !!!
I sometimes forget that I no longer have a colon+rectum ! It's so weird! But it totally rocks :)

  • thanx for the vid iris. i am glad you are doing so well. i hope that some day soon i will be where you are and feeling healthy and too busy to troll youtube all day! right now i just miss being well enough to be busy. i'm sickly with a loop ileo and waiting for takedown. i am on a lot of pain meds. were you on very much? did you find it easy to wean off after takedown? if anyone else has experiences getting off narcotics i'd like to hear about it.

  • You will feel better and healthy and will be back on your feet but, in order to heal and be happy again, you MUST stay as positive as possible! It's the best and healthiest way to heal! I know it's not easy and that it's very difficult emotionally and physically but you can do it! When is your takedown? I tried Mezavant, Asacol, Salofalk, Prednisone, Remicade and hydrocortisone but nothing worked so I had to have a total colectomy. Going off the pred was gradual but fantastic :)

  • Very brave and cool of you to do this. I know that you're helping people by doing so. Hang in there -- hope you're doing well!

  • @mrkkinman -thank you for the lovely comment :)

  • Hello Iris. Just had my colon removed on Dec.27th and I'm home recovering now. I'm feeling great! I did hit some speed bumps while in the hospital, but all better now. I'm healing up for my second of the 3 surgeries. I must say I was was surprised at the size of ur incision and only because you seem very thin. They told me because of my weight they more than likey would not be able to do it laproscopically. And they didn't! 23 inch incision. Thank you for da vid. Gives me hope :-)

  • @jameski44- Hey!!! Woah, I'm happy to hear it all went well! My incision was about 10cm shorter originally (after the 1st surgery). Because they had to remove the rectum and create the j-pouch during the 2nd surgery, my surgeon had to open me up even more in order to have enough space to move around. 23inches is MASSIVE! Sorry, I'm with the metric system here in Canada :P I'm not sure what's the equivalent but I know it's big! But it was for a good cause! Keep smiling and stay positive xx

  • hi, i have had crohns for many years, less than a year ago i learned about the specific carbohydrates diet which after 8 months of following it religiously it has changed my life. i urge anyone with crohns or uc to investigate, it has helped a lot so far, med free.

  • Very informative and good video, thank you!

I hope you will never have any problems again or at least if you do, that you will fight them like a boss!

  • @barnraw56- I'm happy to know you enjoyed watching my videos. And I know how it feels to be relieved of all UC symptoms when having an ileostomy. At first, when they tell you you'll need an ileostomy you freak out but then you get used to it and it's soooooo helpful that you forget you have an ileostomy and carry with a normal, healthy life, which is the most important thing :)

  • Your video is very informative I had uc for 12 years after all the meds I went the ileostomy route and this is the best I have ever felt. And I can eat anything.
