C'mon now guys- yes, he wasnt perfect and he made a lot of mistakes. But, its clear that at the point in his life when the video was filmed- his heart was in the right place. Nobody today looks back on the berlin wall and thought of it as a good thing- and he did his part in fighting for it be taken down- not for himself, but for the people that were starving behind it. Thats something not to be overlooked.
