What a Novell SUSE Linux commercial. I don't know if it's really the best option. Maybe Debian could do these jobs, too, for example. Xen isn't really 100% secure for those critical runtime jobs and so I must say: It's not the best choice, but for sure it's more costless than real hardware. @Deutsche Flugsicherung / IT-Abteilung: Solange nichts passiert, interessiert's keinen. Ich empfehle dennoch wieder in Richtung Hardware zu gehen. Xen ist eher fuer Provider gedacht.

Actually, the big ops room looks darker in the video than in real life. Many of the (darker) close-ups show the simulator, not the actual ops room.

Actually American ATC systems are in the process of a make over. Involving much more GPS/satellite systems. I wish I knew more specifics to tell you, but its actually supposed to be a huge upgrade in ATC and Navigational systems within the next couple years.

TRACONs do not exist in Europe. In the video, those were ACC rooms.
And they are dark too, but just lit up for the video.
But I must say, the US ATC system is way too old. The systems are crap. They need a makeover.

I like the European TRACON rooms, they are nice and lit up. The ones in America are all dark and filled with smoke with the exception of a few big TRACONs that are like this, but not many :P
