On September 13th peppercorn class A1 pacific tornado explored new ground as she took the Cathedrals Express to Exeter and back.
The outward journey would be new rails for tornado as the route was from London Waterloo to Exeter via Salisbury and Yeovil junction, the return was up the Great Western Main line to Bristol and bath and back to Salisbury then went as far as Clapham junction on the return.

We see tornado on her outward run at Axe Level crossing (Near Chard Junction) running at her best as she approaches the final few miles to Exeter.
For the return we head for Tiverton Parkway station were in the chaos because of the delayed trains on the platform I was planning to film from a Voyager appeared and I heard the announcement that a train was not to stop on the other platform so I managed to move myself to the footbridge in time to see tornado pass.

This probably the last time I am to see Tornado for a brief while but she did a fantastic job of hauling tours in the west for the summer!

Enjoy!

  • I could probably tell you the exact location as I used to live down that way but the video doesn't seem to want to work for me ?

  • Great video mate 5*. The first shot at the crossing was fantastic. Where is this? It looks a great place to film!!

  • Two whistles because a two-tone warning device is required to meet current standards so it was felt that, in addition to the authentic A1 whistle, a 3-tone A4 chime would be preferable to a diesel/electric type device.

  • yes, a trypical high-pictched LNER whistle as carried by the original A1's in front of the cab, and an A4 chime whistle tucked behind the smoke deflector.

  • Agreed, jakeyboygen can certainly make good videos! I'm sure if he went to the various railways and asked if they wanted DVDs to sell....

  • i agree make a dvd

  • Great Video. Like the first shot. Absolutly love that whistle! 5*
