T-90 the best? Don't think so... even with reactive armor i don't think so. M1A2 Abrams is battle proven, much better tank.

And yet, when US officials and experts tested T-80U and T-72B tanks from Ukraine in 1997, they came to conclusion that russian tanks due to their composite/ERA armour combination had the level of protection sufficient enough to protect the said tanks against NATO weapons used. They were subjected to fire from 120mm rounds used by NATO tanks, 30mm rounds used by Apache and A-10, as well as ATGM used at the time.

M1A2 tank like M1A1 in the First Gulf War was battle proven against previous generation tanks of which only T-72M and Asad Bhabil had composite armour of inferiour quality, while the majority of Iraqi tanks were T-55 and it's chinese copies. Tests conducted by German military after unification and the US trials that confirmed those tests show the real picture when russian tanks are concerned.

I forgot to mention, that I do not consider any modern tank today as "best". Everyone of them has flaws. The thing is they are all comparable.

Anyway, an example of the quality of T-72 export models is that the Yugoslav MoD after purchasing T-72M tanks from Checkoslovakia, urged Tito to negotiate with the Soviet Union and ask for licence to build a tank based on T-72M. Chechs were ordered by Brezhnev himself to give the documentation to Yugoslav experts. That's how M-84 was built.
