David was Yoko and John Lennon's discovery. We met at Apple Records and I joined his Lower East Side Band for awhile. This clip doesn't reveal the rest of David Peel's apt where 3 coquettes were trance-dancing as we rehearsed his Marijuana song. He always had an endless circus of hare-krishna types, yogis, revolutionaries and spacey hippie girls floating about.
@ClueSign Yeah, thats odd about the 23 y/o. I remember the bed being up a bit, like chest high or higher, I guess for storage under it, the place was quite dark and I only remember 2 windows on 1 wall.
I had no issues with any of it, I was after all a horny teen.

@doggiejigs You just jogged my memory -- there were always many cute young boys -- of runaway age, hanging around. Oddly I once brought a friend of mine, outwardly gay guy around 23 years old or so, and Peel insulted him and called him, I distinctly remember, a "balloon"...I do remember that bedroom, too -- wasn't the bed up on a loft? In any case -- hope you have grown up relatively unscathed emotionally. In this day and age, one would hope he could deal with sexuality differently.

@ClueSign It was East 5th st, the top floor, rear apartment with a huge bed in a tiny room the bed barely fit into, you had to climb up thru the room's doorway to get into it. I never saw him do drugs, but he definitely had a "fondness" for teen boys, I know because I was one of them, and I was well under age 18 when I went to his apartment at least a couple of times in the 70's when I was around 14 or 15. Things just "happened"

Thanks for posting this Ivan, and for sharing all your archives. I have many funny memories of the circus at David Peel's packed apartment (on E 5th was it?) where he would hold court among his thousands of albums. I was a rock journalista at the time for Trouser Press and NY Rocker -- probably one of the hippie chicks you mention. David Peel was completely drug-free, ironically. Never saw him imbibe. Lovely memories.
