Original text:

I.
Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae: vita, dulcedo et spes nostra, salve.

II.

IV.
O clemens, o pia, o dulcis Virgo Maria.

English translation

I.
Hail Holy Queen, Mother of mercy
{Hail] our life, our sweetness and our hope!

II.
To thee do we cry, poor banished chidren of Eve,
To thee do we send up our sighs,
Mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

III.
Turn, then, o most gracious advocate,
Thine eyes of mercy and after this our exile
Show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

IV.
O clement, o loving, o sweet Virgin Mary.

  • I love what you are doing but I don't understand why the performance is 1/2 step lower than the sheet music you are showing.

  • Because it was performed on a lower pitch (A=415 Hz) with period instruments instead of modern pitch (A=440). Meaning that the instruments are tuned to a relatively lower frequence. So when they play E, for example, it sounds like modern day E flat. For further reading, you can check out the article in wikipedia on the topic.
