This is an accelerated time lapse clip of the 2 foot tall Lava Lamp Grande. A light bulb heats the wax inside the lamp. The wax expands due to the increase in temperature, become less dense, and floats in the liquid it is in. As the wax cools it contracts, becomes more dense and sinks. I use this lamp to show how buoyancy and convection currents work in the ocean, air, and inside earth.
