Noel Crombie, eminent former member of New Zealand band Split Enz (1972-1984), released this cover of country and western gem 'My Voice Keeps Changing On Me' in 1983.

As well as being the Split Enz spoonist, Noel was also the band's percussionist, designer, costumer and drummer at various times.

  • Noel Crombie, Split Enz; Linda McCartney, Wings.

  • I can see where you're coming from, but Noel made significant contributions to Split Enz both onstage (performer, vocalist, percussionist, spoon player &drummer), and offstage (stage manager, set designer, costumer, videoclip director, album artwork).

All former members (except Phil Judd) are known for voicing appreciation of Noel's work and its vital part in the unique character of the Enz.

True, Noel didn't have a conventional role, but Split Enz was not a conventional group.

  • Proof to why Crombie made costumes and didn't write songs for the Enz, weirdo.

  • He didn't write it - it's a cover. The only reason it was released was because band members didn't want to pay for studio time used while Split Enz were on hiatus.

Noel's a bit ambivalent towards it, too, but it was a hit in rural Queensland, Australia.

  • I didn't think it was humanly possible for me to adore Noel Crombie more than I already do.

This clip has proven that I was vastly mistaken. :D

  • Thank you for that. I suppose my comment was harsh/rude. I adore Split Enz and feel each band member was so intensely talented (still are). I just remember as a young teen finding Noel very odd -and remembering the band always giving him kudos for his tambourine playing, etc. He always made them smile when they introduced him. I'll change my comment: Noel Crombie = the "Fifth" Beatle.

  • @tellysgonebung "except Phil Judd".. what are on man??? Phil talks very fondly of noel.. if phil didnt appreciate Noel, do you think he wouldve asked him to be in schnell fenster AND also form the side project "noels cowards"...

  • @smileyguy21 Do you know him?

  • good ole phil judd . wat else about phil?

  • thanks!

  • I remember seeing this in the 80's on Radio With Pictures, an alternative music show in NZ. Only Noel could get away with that and make it cool.

  • I don't remember Noel getting kudos for his tambourine playing but I sure do remember the guy was fantastic on the spoons!

  • WHAT A MINUTE! I know Phil Judd and he certainly DOES voice appreciation of Noel's work and his vital part in creating and shaping Split Enz! Phil respects Noel's talents so much that when he created Schnell Fenster he sought out Noel as it's drummer and even allowed Noel to create the set designs and costumes for the band(as Noel had done with Split Enz).

  • i love this noel is a legend! anyone know where I get a copy of this :-)

  • great ! thanks for posting this
