  • Unfortunate? Atrocious fits her death more. Not to mention she really did NOTHING to deserve such a treatment.

As for the young Louis, just committed the crime of being a male heir, hence a threat. Still he has been neglected and mistreated to death, which is just as horrible. Only Marie-Therese, the King's daughter made it out of the Revolution alive.

  • I understand that the French peasants were hungry and all but that was no reason to do all what they did. Lamballe's death was unfortunate, but the treatment of young Louis was absolutely dreadful. He was only about 7 years old and was being abused and mistreated by the revolutionaries, when he was innocent of the deeds his parents supposedly committed. This is horrible...

  • What film is this from?

  • but princesse de Lamballe belonged to the royal family, she was not common

  • unbelievable crime!!! how could french people do something like that! not only they hated marie antoinette without any reason, but also murdered all her best friends, that horrid French revolution was nothing but horror a and blasphemy!

  • @trixwiz7 Jealousy? Why did the aristocracy have it better than the poor? Because they worked hard ? Because they were intelligent? Or was it because they were corrupt? Was it because they made laws to suit themselves? Was it because they abused their power and position? If the poor were cruel, they learned it from their masters.

  • @Smithpolly The people slaughtered in Bosnia, Rwanda, were treated no less cruelly than the Princesse de Lamballe. But poverty is irrelevant to guilt. Only intellectual/mental illness affects mens rea. Just because you, or your children, are poor, doesn't mean you can have revenge on people who had it better than you. That's jealousy gone mad. I'd find it hard not to tear the people who did this to the Princesse limb from limb, but I'd never, ever take it out on their wives or children

  • @xbellabebex I don't see that things that happened during that time are any more cruel than things that happened in WWII or Bosnia or Rwanda. And if you are hungry and tired and cold and uneducated and have no hope of anything better ever for yourself or your children, you might find it difficult to care very much about the well fed, warm, charming lady in the pretty dress.

  • @Smithpolly

Yes people can get mean when they are in poverty. But this isn't "mean" this is downright barbarism and insane, mindless killing. The Reign of Terror was called so for a reason. It is surprising because we in our society that cannot fathom such cruelty and violence. Not all of the "peasants" were like this though, so it's no excuse to torture innocent people. The princess did not directly contribute to France's problems. She was but a product of her raising. So sad. =(
