I've finally put together a video of us test driving a classic! This time, the vehicle of interest is a '65 Chrysler New Yorker, 4-door hardtop. This full-size luxury cruiser was equipped with an automatic transmission and loaded with power features, including power windows, brakes, and a remote operated antennae which could be raised and lowered via a switch mounted on the dash. The '65 model year marked a turning point for Chrysler, having put to rest the push-button automatic transmission controls ( which had been a mainstay since 1956 ) in favor of a more conventional column shifter. It was also the last year of the 413 V8, which in this model was rated at 340 horsepower. The styling of the New Yorker was similar to the 300 series, having included those very distinctive glass covers that protected the headlights. I found that despite it's size and weight, the New Yorker certainly has adequate acceleration to keep up with most anything else on the road these days, providing a comfortable ride and great visibility. Altogether, I'd have to say that is a rare treat to drive an often overlooked Mopar. You won't often see a car this age so well-preserved, looking and running as good as it did 40 years ago!

  • what's the song's name???

  • @bremic391 It's "Sweet Talkin' Guy" by The Chiffons.

  • "Ahhh" to step back in time and feel the wind in your hair and the rumble under your foot. I own a 65 300L and want to get behind the wheel right now after watching that. So are u going to buy it?

  • I wouldn't mind having a car like this one, but I couldn't possibly afford it. This one does need a few things, but nothing major. I couldn't get the power windows to go up or down and it smelled like gas pretty bad after awhile. I believe it has an exhaust leak somewhere, as I noticed from one of the videos that the car sounds louder than it should be when you're standing near the passenger side. It wouldn't take much to fix all of that, though.

  • How much is it bye the way?

  • $4,995 USD is the sticker price. He told me he'd entertain offers, also.

  • Factory installed Air Conditioning, I love it!

  • @drpreposterous1 I was using reference from relatives who owned cars from this era. For example my granddad bought a 1965 New Yorker brand new, equipped with all the bells and whistles available at the time. I remember him telling me he kept the car about 6 months before returning it back to the dealership. In those six months he said he drove it barely four months. The rest of the time, it was in the service department.

I may be biased, as a steadfast Mopar nut, but I disagree. If you want to talk the 'late 50s models from Virgil Exner, or the fuselage years of '69 and up, that statement is certainly true. I've never heard anyone complain about the '65-66's build quality, and the '66 Newport I once owned was rock solid when I sold it in '84 despite seven years of Michigan winters.

  • Beautiful car, good engineering, but horrible, awful build quality.

  • This Chrysler was built at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Canada. The steel used in the body was much thicker than other lower Chrysler lines. Back then, my job was on the drill line. Rear quarter panels were mine along with the guy on the opposite shift. The memories of this and a gazillion other Chrysler products remain ever so sweet.

  • thats no classic.... thats an antique!

  • I have never owned a Chrysler, but I always wanted this car. I love the lines of it. I test drove a '66 Imperial once and it was the smoothest riding car I have ever been in. My '67 T-bird rides nice but it's not a cruiser like these cars!
