I liked the part when you were typing on the keyboard

Are you nuts? I'd take a Model M over a cheap membrane keyboard any day.

Mine was made in 29-05-1990 and it's still going strong; I even cleaned it (pried all keys off of it, cleaned them individually and the whole board itself as well). Try that with any new keyboard.

@lovetoeatallthefood oh definately i hate these modern pieces of crap. they just pretty them all up so idiots will buy them. thats probly why so many people suck at typing
-
@TheHitlerGuy - The point, which you clearly missed, was that some of us are actually more concerned about *practical* merits, and don't care about the trivial, superficial nonsense that you're crying over. You might as well start whining that you don't like the typeface on the keycaps, that has just about as much relevance to its utility as a keyboard
-
@lovetoeatallthefood so we compare it to a typewriter which NO HUMAN BEING in a non 3rd world country uses anymore? am i right? it's fucking loud, that is all i am saying and it's true, a typewriter is fucking loud aswell but nobody uses one anymore so fuck you?
-
@TheHitlerGuy - um, why would you assume that? I own both an IBM Model M (which was my desktop keyboard until a year ago) and one of the newer Unicomp versions (my current keyboard). The loudness is part of the appeal, the sound of typing on a good mechanical switch keyboard is like having a sign on your door that says "piss off, I'm busy".
And if you think a Model M is loud, then you've never used a typewriter.
-
@lovetoeatallthefood and i am sure you own a lot of these? probably not, the model m is so fucking loud that i rather type on a 20euro cherry rubberdome board.

36k views, you people are way too fond of your keyboards. In case I didn't mention it before, this is actual typing, not just hammering away at random. the typist here has tested at 120wpm and broke the test (it was of the sort where you are timed on copying a paragraph, with the time limit based on 120wpm to type the whole thing; she had time to go back and edit before the time ran out.)

Yes, you can get a big-DIN to mini-DIN (PS/2) adapter at Staples for $6 or so. Make sure you have an actual Model M before buying, though -- the old 82-key keyboard with the F-keys up the left side uses a different protocol and won't work at all on modern computers. Which is sad, because it's EVEN LOUDER than the M.

Weird. I got the comment email for this one all in French. Obviously because you're a Frog, but still, you'd think they'd send me emails in English no matter what crazy moon language the commenter speaks.
