  • @observant98 oh so hyundai have a 3 cylinder 1.0liter with 140hp? When did this happen? or are you comparing apples and oranges.......

  • I am surprised to see a timing belt instead of a chain. I was under the impression car manufacturers were switching back to chains to reduce maintenance.

The rubber dipped in oil is different and I would guess that would extend the life of the belt. Not sure about synthetic oil degrading rubber, maybe the latest synthetic oils do not have that affect on rubber. Ford will almost certainly specify an oil for use in this engine, possibly based on esters. Time will tell.

  • I applaud the engineers at ford. The only american car manufacturer that americans are proud of.

  • @GM60degreeV6 you dont need a big engine to go places, and if its a bigger cylinder the crankshaft will have a wider hold on all three cylinders thus less efficient and it would be a bigger engine, why do you think its so easy to rip out a honda civic engine, duh its made to be light small and easy to come out

  • If you're into the benefits that speed offers on the road, this is for you! Aside from that, it is very efficient.

  • what car use this engine?

  • Why are all 3 cylinders always a 1.0L? They should make a 1.5L, thats half of a 3.0L V6.

  • @RSROBXR2 Yes they do, but not on that part. What they do need is RWD so you can DRIVE the car and not just ride along with it.

  • @observant98 the accent is a bigger motor first off so they can not be compared. you would put the ford motor up against the 1.4 with 106HP, not the 1.6 with 138HP. and second both of those motors are 4 cylinders, the ford is a 3 cylinder.

  • Well done Ford, this engine is incredible. Best part of 60mpg from a 123bhp petrol Focus? Can't wait to see if it can do it in the real world too.

  • Am I the only one who thought that this would go well dropped in a Mk1 escort.

Small & Powerful package in a lightweight Old Skool Ford.

  • Awesome engineering, Ford.

    Bravo.
