David Gavlinski - Part 2 of my Peace Corps final project. This was filmed in March and April of 2006. The project was funded by the Manistee Sunrise Rotary Club of Manistee, Michigan. Please excuse the horrible writing; most of it was done on one take for fear of not being able to re-charge my battery. I have no idea why it took me so long to post this. Enjoy!
It's called Saramakan (or Saramaccan depending who you ask). Spoken in Suriname by a group of Maroons of the interior of the same name, and I learned it in the Peace Corps there. It's great fun to speak.

There are a lot of cons, but first you have to have a college degree in most cases to enter. So that's the first "con" from your perspective. Next, it's hard. They don't provide many resources, and you are usually on your own to make things work. It's tough. You have to learn a language (or more than one) and work outside of your comfort zone all the time. That which is cast as a pro can just as easily be cast as a con.
Cheers.
