Book Review of Martyrs Mirror by Thieleman J. Van Braght. This book was once in every Anabaptists home and was nearly as solid a mainstay as the family Bible. The martyrs of the Christian faith are faithfully recorded in chronological order beginning with Christ and going up to 1660 when the author published. Martyrs Mirror is similar in its subject and approach to Foxe's Book of Martyrs which was written some 100 years earlier and of course MM is much larger. Although the subject and idea of martyrdom appear to be morose, it is actually one of hope, inspiration and courage in the face of tyranny.
I read Foxe's Book Of Martyrs some time ago. This was in preparation for what is shortly to come upon our American soil. The atrocities of old will be again. Revelation 13 tells us this. In fact, I know that these weapons will be the very ones turned on God's true people. For this very reason, I refuse to arm myself. For sure there will be martyrs because Rev 13 = death decree up to a certain point then Psalm 91 will come to pass. God makes a way for his people. Jesus is my example.
