Here is another example of why homeowners, contractors, and builders should consult with a structural engineer prior to starting construction. There are many contractors and builders that are very good at what they do, but unfortunately there are many contractors that don't, and can cost you thousands of dollars in repairs. It pays to hire an Engineer to size the beams, and ensure that your house is built right the first time. Even the best contractors out there know the value of using an Engineer.
