@kotapaka Not all of the US allows them. The way my university does it is based on class. For the most part I'm allowed a calculator that can preform trig functions but nothing more sophisticated than that.
The Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (required to become an Engineer) doesn't allow anything with more than trig functions either.

@Zenome Well no actually I live in the UK. Maybe your university is just dodgy.
-
@kotapaka Maybe your country is a third world country.

@TheSilentwarrior99 Man I'm talking about university. And what's with the "I wasn't EVEN allowed to use a GRAPHICAL..." I'm at uni and as I said I can only use a basic $10 calculator and we do get questions to sketch some crazy functions especially in signals and control (transfer functions etc).
-
@kotapaka And its pre-calculus, not calculus, that means highschool. In highschool I wasnt even allowed to use a graphical calculator on tests, much less a beast like this calculator.
-
I would have liked to have seen a sketch of the solution.

"we dont have a smart board....." Thats what all the underpaid teachers say
God in the US you are allowed everything! In my university we are allowed the most basic scientific calculators. The most complex operation they can do is to find the determinant of a matrix (up to 3x3).

College precal not once had anything to do with math town. Group work wastes time. I would much rather try and work the problem myself and ask the teacher for assistance.
