  • I'm confused. Is this TRUE nitrocellulose where you have to put cotton in sulfuric acid and then nitric acid? or is it just cellulose that has been dunked into a kno3 solution?

  • @japanesepoptart It is true nitrocellulose made by submersion in a solution of sulfuric acid and potassium nitrate, which converts to nitric acid in solution. I explain the process on grassrootsdiy(dot)com

  • @Nighthawkinlight

    WOEWOEWOEWOEWOE!!! STOP!

    KNO3 + H2SO4 = NITRIC ACID?!?!?

If so, I wish I would have known that a LONG time ago >:(

  • @japanesepoptart Yes, more or less. It needs to be heated and condensed out of the solution to be purified, but can be used as is in solution to produce NC. Check my website.

  • ok so here's a new question. first of all, ive made pretty good Nitrocellulose this way and even been able to use it to shoot a .38 cal bullet (very slow and unreliable) but i was wondering if you have made NC laquer with it? i have only used ping pong balls and smokeless powder. let me know.

  • Yeah it works fine.

  • make that with 3,5kg... xD

  • ...and distilling from a dry alkali metal nitrate + dehidratating agent yields 99% nitric :)

  • put strontium nitrate in it for me please?!

  • @japanesepoptart

    Blind leading the blind.

NaOH destroys nitrocellulose. Sodium bicarb is what to use.

  • @bas12345654321

You mean nitric acid? you neutralize it with a base solution like sodium hydroxide.

  • @japanesepoptart

How do you make this again a ph of 7 ?

  • @Jwdrummer5 for clarifycation, can u get nirtocellulose from pingpong balls and acetone? if dried and stuff correctly? i use the sulfuric acid and nitric acid method. I dont know too much about using pingpong balls.

  • @japanesepoptart I guess you 're having a hard time getting conc. HNO3? If So, try artchemicalsdotcom. Or do you not Want to get Nitric acid?

  • @prometheustwin1970

Well, I prefer using pure chemicals too, but pigs will fly the day I get nitric acid :(

  • nice

  • @japanesepoptart You can also make nitrocellulose from a mixture of 45ml H2SO4 98% with 35ml HNO3 70%. I prefer using straight acids as the result is purer and you don't have to deal with dissolving the XNO3 (any nitrate salt will do-KNO3, NH4NO3, NANO3, etc.)
