I am certainly not an Abbott fan either, I cant stand the guy but this was an obvious set up by this journo....its cheap and trashy journalism but what can you expect from a television station that produces Today Tonight.

No matter how many times I see this its almost unbelievable that anything could stoop this low, even a left wing piece of fecal matter like this.

Abbott should have snotted the slimey weasel piece of shit, its just a pity Abbott is a bible basher otherwise he could have really done the decent people of Australia a service in downing this slithering disgusting, filthy, arrogant, toad.

I doubt if he ever will get a seat in the Bown government even after this disgracful display!

@mcdazz2011 of mcourse they would, they had just lost their son and are going to be sensitive about anything. So why did the media insensitively air it?

He was asked the question and he answered it. As I have said it is a sensitive topic and the journalist was trying to score cheap points. Abbott would not have been happy about this journo doing this at the expense of the dead mans family, hence Abbott saying, "I have given you the answer you deserve! I thought Tony restrained himself well.

@ozmium71 - the soldiers family were quite upset about Abbott's comments.

As for the journalism behind it, they had spoken to Abbott's office earlier in the day, so Abbott had been forewarned about the question.

And yet, this was his response.

Whether anyone likes Abbott or not should be put aside - the statement ("shit happens") is not how a loved one would like to see someone in Abbott's position respond about their death.

How would you feel if it was your son/daughter?

@wesstkilda - the problem for Abbott is that his office was warned about the question earlier in the day.

The other thing is that Seven News had to fight long and hard to get the footage from Abbott in Afghanistan (they didn't know specifically about this footage, but were actually after footage of Abbott pretending he was Rambo and firing machine guns and automatic weapons).

Whatever we might think of Abbott, his response shows his true character (or lack thereof).

Cheap journalism trying to inflame a very sensitive issue, I don't blame Abbott, he was obviously livid, I would be too if some journalists was attempting to score cheap points after a soldier had just died by suggesting Abbott was making light of it.

As much as I hate Abbott and his brain dead negative policy, I do think the whole 'shit happens' thing was taken out of context. Still, with the amount of shit the left has to put up with from mainstream media, it's good Tony got to experience it at his end for a change.

Obviously Tony was out of line, and i dont think anyone could be able to respond to this any better if we did something like that. Im not a big fan of him, but he and the libs are ten times the party and shit all over this julia gillard and kevin rudd government. Its run like a fuckin circus. Aussies are sick of it.
