Im totally unfamilier with scales at all. I understand that scales are groups of certains notes, but to play a scale you need to play chord. So, only way to play C major scale is to strum C chord beforehand?

i agree with wikipeoples =/

question?...lets say a song is in the key of am can i play an am pentatonics ,melodic, harmonic etc. any of them, just as long as its in that key for a song thats in the key am..

its very very rare to find a music teacher that can actually convey their material effectively.
Most THINK their student understands more than the student actually does, and this problem seems localized to music in my experience.
Unfortunately this guy isn't good at all. Sorry m8

due music teachers understand that most students have no idea what their explaining.
-
are all music teachers crap?

this is great, it isn't mindless scale rehearsal - it's actual understanding! Thanks a lot!

ok, i made a stupid comment i finally understood what you are saying on the video, lol. I didnt notice you at first, saying "but start with A", so after a few replays of the video i finally figured it out. I guess having a drink while learning theories is bad, but im pretty sure im right with the "3 fret rule" :)
-
im a bit confused how you explained about the A minor pentatonic dropping 3 frets becoming a F major pentatonic, the relative minor stuff you are explaining. Afaik, if you drop 3 frets (using the "3 fret rule")from, for ex. A major that would be F# minor pentatonic and if you want a to get the relative major of a minor scale, you should go up 3 frets.

So apparently you don't find posting accurate information to correct that which has been inaccurately stated as valuable. I'd say you're the one who walks about filled with a vinegar solution.
This guy charges money for this? I understand theory and scale construction and I can't follow what he's talking about. A beginner wouldn't be able to make heads or tails out of this. Absolutely terrible, confusing explanation and not even correct on certain points - "there's no E#, there's no Fb". Like hell there isn't. Ever heard of enharmonics? And what's with the constant whine in the background? Feedback? Camera noise? Who wants to put up with that?

these videos were made for a college project 5 years ago, and were put on youtube a few years after for a bit of fun, all for free. i did state that you can write the note E as F flat, hence your enharmonics. this was meant to be for intermediate people and not beginners anyway. why dont you try filming your own videos to help others? have fun

You doubled back and sort of half-explained alternate note names but in a very disorganized way that contradicts your previous - and incorrect in the context you presented them - statements. Note the guy's "wtf is a scale?" comment after watching. "Understanding scales" isn't an intermediate topic. But whoever the target audience is, it's not explained clearly. I believe you mentioned a DVD so I assumed you were selling this. I commend your donation with intent to assist others but...

yeah its really hard to present and remember everything all in one take and get it across clearly without an autocue. there are little mistakes like calling an f sharp a g flat in an A major context etc. some people find these vids usefull, some people rip the sh*t. either way i made them 5 years ago, so it doesnt botherme. Thereare obviously rules to music, but most guitarists ignore them or break them, check out marty friedman, he makes up his own scales! like i said why dont you give it a go?
