way to smash your hard drive around. I dont see how this is a problem unless you shake your laptop violently when you use it

check requirements of your effects and installed os
compare with your specs of your desktop, also mind that if you have equal to the required specs. and are beneath the recommended, you'll need to turn off as many effects as possible

Reboot is for windows :)
Fancy desktop effects, maybe takes too much cpu and ram resources. Turn them off. Install more and faster ram. And listen to better music.
