yep 3 loco's it is feasible,1000 tonne per loco, these old girls will pull 2000 tonne on flat no sweat, it's only the grades that that cause probs, if there wasn't the reefton saddle 1 loco could a 30 wagon train from Ngakawau to Stillwater, 2 from Stillwater 2 Otira, then you come 2 Otira thats the headache, if they electicified from Jackson to Cass the prob would be solved, sit and fugure it out, if i owned the coalroute i wouldn't be runnin it as these clowns are. enough said

*typo, 3 engines

I'd say it doesn't look any more feasible... lol
4 engines hard at work burning xx litres a minute and barely moving lol.

yep trial was done on 23-01-2007, i was the LE from Sergeants hill to Redjacks
Hello there, what beautiful footage, i was cringing at the thought of 45 wagons on the coal route, bad enough we didnt have enough locos for our freight yet they where trying to get this in motion. Nice to see how it really works down south loving the videos

lol yep, i agree, enough said.
When you speak of The Otira, is that the same route the Tranzalpine would take from CHCH to Greymouth?
I recently went from chch to Jackson's on the train to goto the wildfoods festival, and i was surprised that 4 engines we're needed to pull a 6 carriage passenger train up the Otira tunnel incline (1 in 35 grad?)
They desperately needed to keep that section electrified imo =\

if only six cars it would have had a single loco in which case the other 3 locos would be the banker locos
