Pacey believed in Joey first and always saw who she really was. He never put her on some fake, fantasy pedestal like Dawson did.

That is why Dawson's responses to her interests like art or dance where always, "Since when did you like art/dance?"

I find Joey shared a lot more with Pacey than she did with Dawson, even here before they got together and they "hated" each other

Dawson is the biggest douche bag in the history of television. He was selfish, maronic, and lived in his own la la land (see end of season 3). So glad she ended up with Pacey at the very end. There is no contest. Even when he does get to sleep with her (ep: 602), he has another girlfriend. What a prick! Not to mention Joey never had the chemistry that she did with Pacey. It just wasn't there. And this episode shows that Pacey always liked Joey first. That should really shut up all those DJ fans.

Dawson wanted to date other people and have his space, and he expected Joey to just save herself and sit around waiting for him. You see this both here and in season 3. In season 3 Dawson needed his space, but then it was UNACCEPTABLE to him when he found out that P/J had developed into more than friends. Joey wasn't supposed to move on, she was supposed to wait for him to come around. She was never supposed to sleep with Pacey, she was supposed to save herself for Dawson forever and ever.

Dawson is so awful. When Pacey and Joey do get together he's all mad because "Joey was Dawson's first" but Pacey wanted to be with her BEFORE Dawson.

I don't remember this.....Pacey told Dawson way back here that he had feelings for Joey, then why did Dawson act so shocked in season 3? They should have made mention of this in season 3.

I never realised that : thanks to Pacey, by kissing Joey and tell Dawson about it, he made them realise they had fellings for each other... He so owns the show!
