  • It's true, those were the church rules back in the days, of course now it's easier if women sing this but it was really originally written to be sung by boys and men.

It is true that male soprani were the norm for church music, however Vivaldi did most of his work at L'Ospedelle della Pieta, an orphanage in Venice. While boys and girls both lived at the orphanage, the boys were taught a trade and the girls were taught music. Long story short, this really should be sung by girls if it is supposed to be historically accurate.
