This video has been produced by People Energy and Environment Development Association, ( PEEDA ) in Nepal and serves as a brief description of the Low-head Pico-hydro Promotion Project. The technology has been developed by Nepal Hydro Electric with assistance from international partners such as the United Mission to Nepal (UMN). This technology now needs to be made available in all districts of Nepal. Do you know if they are adapting AV motors and using them as generators on these projects?

They use 4 pole induction motors as generators, rotating around 1550 rpm, as they are cheaper and more easily available than permanent magnet generators

I've seen this pico unit in use in Nepal. The local people love it as they have to do very little to keep it going and provides them with 24 hours a day electricity, a contrast from the rest of the country which suffers from long scheduled power cuts.
