MISSISSAUGA WATCH CITIZEN ALERT! Have you or your child had "dealings" with City of Mississauga security guards? What you don't know can hurt you!

Procedure for self-protection following any incident involving Mississauga Corporate Security or Corporation of the City of Mississauga Staff

MOST IMPORTANT! For your own protection regardless of whether you are in the wrong, as soon as practical after an incident, file a Freedom of Information form requesting:
All records, emails, and any other documents pertaining to [your name].
All records, emails, and any other documents including any video surveillance footage pertaining to the incident of [date] at [location] involving [your name] and [Mississauga Corporate Security or City staff].

The filing fee is $5.00. Forms are available here: City of Mississauga ONLINE FORM: Access / Correction Request - Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
Why this is important

A Freedom of Information request (FOI) immediately protects the requested documents from deletion based on the Citys official Records Retention Policy. Without such a request, video surveillance footage can be erased after only five days.

Do not assume that because you were in the wrong, there is no reason to file your FOI! Your records on file with the City can contain gross errors. In particular, FOI has shown that Mississauga Corporate Security records can be inaccurate and severely biased. You can also use the FOI request form to request a correction of your file. Although you cannot make them correct false information, your side of the story will become part of the official record.

Finally, always keep in mind that the official record can make your incident appear far worse than it actually was.

  • Security purpose is to protect city property

But as a citizen we have collective rights to

    monitor and to question authority.

re: "But as a citizen we have collective rights to monitor and to question authority."

I hate to tell you this, friend. Those "collective rights" are on pieces of paper. And look great and all Canadian-y on paper.

But try exercising those rights. The vast majority of defending those rights demand an industrial strength lawyer who commands lots of money.

For regular chumps like me?... You're IGNORED (and that's if you're lucky).

  • The Officers of the Mississauga Corporate Security must now be licensed by the Province and abide by a code of conduct. They are overseen by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. They have the authority under the Trespass to Property Act to ban and arrest any person on city property in contravention of the TPA. They can also arrest any person committing a criminal offence on or in relation to city property. They are just doing their job. Your beef should b with the province

No they don't. In March 2008, they made up their own Code of Conduct!

You wrote: "They are overseen by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services."

    NOPE.

You wrote: "They are just doing their job. "

    No. They're abusive, unaccountable KNOBS.

You wrote: "Your beef should be with the province "

    Wrong again.

  • Group 4 Securicor (G4S) is the worst security company in the industry and in the world, and in Mississauga, claming to be the best. Their staff is incapable.

They treat their emplyoees like dirt and make them work 7 days a week. <---- Full time schedule.. 8 hours monday to friday, and 12 hours on Saturday and 12 hours on Sunday with no over time pay. Shifts are most likely "Nights and Weekends" all for $10 /hr and you can forget about a raise. Condominium Security -10 /hr , Armored trucks $12/hr

  • Hi robziolek ,

Actually, I've been researching City of Mississauga Corporate Security using Freedom of Information since February 2007.

Because the City ensured they were "in-house" provincial standards, codes of conduct and especially the public complaints procedure do not apply to them.

These municipal knob guards are totally unaccountable to the public, have no oversight, have "management" who openly tolerate fascist guards who admit to abuses right on the Internet in public forums

    No they do NOT!

I went right up in front of Mississauga Council and asked specifically.

The City Solicitor said that Bill 159, the Private Security & Investigative Services Act, 2005 does NOT apply to them because they are "in-house" security guards.

They don't have to abide to ANYTHING. And the knobs act that way.

  • BasketballinCanada, you wrote, "Mississauga is a great city ". I say it isn't. I say that you don't know anything about how Mississauga is run. Or the number of citizens that Mississauga knowingly harms. And I mean "knowingly".

I based the above comments on two years' worth of Freedom of Information results.

    Mississauga is a LIE.

    Your turn...

  • Mississauga is a great city
