On Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 Baton Rouge Gallery hosted a unique and multifaceted celebration of the exhibition with the Surreal Salon Soiree. An irreverent evening of art, live musical performances, surrealist games, costumed attendees and more.
One of the most visually stunning aspects of the Soiree is the audience itself. Everyone was invited to top the imaginative costumes worn in years past which included unicorns, mermen, big pigs, a band of superheroes, tree nymphs and almost any other dreamlike creature one can imagine. Cash and prizes were awarded to those judged to have the "most surreal" attire.
Special Guest Juror Casey Weldon also gave a free lecture at the gallery on January 22 in conjunction with Surreal Salon IV.
Baton Rouge Gallery, a non-profit contemporary art gallery, is located in BREC's historic City Park. The oldest professional artist cooperative in the nation, the gallery promotes contemporary art with a forward-thinking cross-section of artist members.
I'm sorry not all the art is in the video. I didn't photograph all of them and some pics didn't turn out. Hope the video gives you an idea of the art and feel of the night.
