There's a brand new silent movie coming out later this year called The Artist - it's a melodrama and won a prize at Cannes. Here is my review in tribute to the golden age before the talkies.

  • Good thing Mark's language is amazingly well conveyed by the flapping of the hands anyway

  • I'm trying to imagine seeing this film with today's crude audiences. The sound track will be all cell phones, munching noises, and idiots gabbing to each other.

  • A brilliant film.

  • @dmi666 You saying "to watch a silent movie probably for the first time" makes a lot of sense.

  • @InfiniteWhizBang I'm a 15 year old aspiring filmmaker and I absolutely loved it. Truly a work of art; a modern masterpiece. It's not too surprising though, it being from Tarantino's longtime production company The Weinsteins...As for the film experience, you know, I really do prefer classic cinema. I prefer film, I prefer old culture...Luckily, I found a local art house old fashioned cinema in my city and got to see The Artist projected in film...Also, the rest of the audience was seniors.

  • Are mark kermode and Mark lamarr from the same batch of DNA.I think so.

  • What is the name of the orchestral piece starting at 1:34 ?! It's breathtaking.

  • This is brilliant - can we have a similar format and delivery for the radio programme?

  • @cookieflower That is encouraging. : )

  • @BlackMagnumFilms Yeah, I suppose the audiences for TWILIGHT, 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS, or the latest Michael Bay explosion fest is going to ignore this film like it was herpes.

  • @InfiniteWhizBang The audience I was in - a saturday night crowd in Boston - was utterly quiet throughout and applauded at the end.

  • @InfiniteWhizBang It wasn't like that when I saw it, trust me. Nobody like that would go to see it anyway.
